Anna-Lena Frisk, DVM, Dr. med. vet., European Veterinary Specialist in Pathology (Dipl. ECVP), EFPIA co-leader in WP1. Since May 2020 she holds the position of Scientific Director Pathology in the pathology department at Janssen Pharmaceutica in Belgium. Anna-Lena Frisk studied veterinary medicine at the Justus-Liebig University Giessen, Germany, received her DVM in 1994, doctor of veterinary medicin in 2001 which was awarded the “Merial-Promotionspreis 2001” and European specialization in veterinary pathology in 2003. She has 22 years of exerience of toxicological pathology and has a special interest in molecular pathology (e.g. immunohistochemistry, tissue cross reactivity studies, laser capture microdisection) and digital pathology.
Between 1999 and 2003 she worked for Pharmacia Upjohn in Sweden and Italy as a study Pathologist. In 2004 she joined Schering Ag latter to become Bayer Ag in Berlin, Germany as a study pathologist and group head of molecular pathology, where she initiated the implementation of digital pathology and drove the participation of Bayer in the IMI project “Bigpicture”. She also lead an international and cross-divisional digital pathology project encompassing Toxicopathologist from Bayer Crop Science and Pharma, and Machine Learning Scientist from Bayer Pharma.
Anna-Lena Frisk is currently working as a target pathologist scientifically supporting various projects. She is a strong advocate of digital pathology supporting the digital pathology efforts at Janssen believing that the technical possibilities of whole slide scanning and AI will support and improve the work of pathologist in the future. As past chairman of the ESTP, former treassure of the ESVP and former member and lead of the ECVP exame committee she strongly support the interaction and collaboration between different international societies and specializations.
