A Dynamic and Engaging Event

The three-day event was packed with interactive workshops, hands-on demonstrations, and strategic discussions that strengthened the community and shaped the project’s next steps. The meeting was a chance to roll up our sleeves and tackle key challenges in the project together. The program was carefully designed to encourage meaningful interactions, ensuring that every participant had a voice. The eight thematic workshops covered essential areas such as Data Contribution, AI Model Development, Data Use, and Access, providing a structured space for open discussion and problem-solving.

One of the highlights was the hands-on demonstrations, where experts showcased cutting-edge developments in computational pathology and platform services. Participants had the chance to explore these innovations up close, exchange user perspectives, and even vote for their favourite demo.

Adding valuable external input, the Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Board and the Ethics Advisory Board contributed insights that helped shape strategic directions for the project. Thought-provoking discussions on AI ethics, regulatory challenges, and future sustainability made it clear that Bigpicture is not only about data and technology but also about trust, responsibility, and long-term impact.

Key takeaways and milestones

  • Collaboration at its core: the meeting encouraged cross-expertise collaborations, ensuring that the project benefits from diverse perspectives across pathology, AI, industry, and regulatory fields.
  • Upload upload upload! Data contributors were encouraged to start uploading their data.
  • Advancements in AI: presentations on AI-driven abnormality detection in preclinical studies and end-to-end learning for digital pathology underscored Bigpicture’s role in pushing the boundaries of AI in medical imaging.
  • Networking and community Building: from informal lunches to a museum tour and a consortium dinner attended by 96 participants, the meeting provided great opportunities for networking and strengthening professional ties.
Bigpicture is very greatful for this year's Annual Meeting hosts of Uppsala University.

Looking Ahead

The energy and engagement at this year’s Annual Meeting confirmed that the Bigpicture Consortium is on the right track. The event not only aligned project goals for the coming years but also reinforced a sense of community and shared purpose. As we move forward, the insights gathered will help shape the next phase of the project, ensuring that we continue to develop a high-impact, sustainable repository for digital pathology data.

With valuable feedback in hand and new action plans in place, the Bigpicture team is ready to tackle the next challenges together. Here’s to another year of progress, collaboration, and innovation!
