Vienna welcomes Bigpicture community in 2023

Hosting the Annual Meeting 

The Annual Meeting is the most important meeting for the Bigpicture community as it is the largest gathering for all beneficiaries. The second edition of the meeting will be a face-to-face meeting with potentially over a 100 people attending. To meet everyone in person is a unique opportunity and will certainly help the growth of the consortium. Renate: “We are very excited to host the coming Annual Meeting both on a scientific and social level. It is an honor to host all the project partners here in Vienna, and I am happy to also present our team that works here; Christopher Kaltenecker, Maximilian Kõller, and Gertrude Krainz, the Renal pathology team, and all the students that work for the project.” 

Promoting multidisciplinary collaborations 

One of the aims of the coming meeting is to promote cross-interaction between work packages and task forces. The programme will include several sessions and workshops that ask for a diverse audience with different expertises and point of views, to promote productive discussions which will push the project forward. An active contribution of the participants is key to the success of the meeting and the project in general. 

Expanding your network  

The first Annual Meeting in the beginning of 2022 was an online event due to covid restrictions, making the social side of the event a bit more challenging. “One particular challenge in an online event, is that you are more likely to engage with people you already know rather than meeting new people. The Annual Meeting in Vienna is an in-person meeting and will help expanding our networks. We aim for lively scientific discussions and hope that each participant will contribute their ideas. I expect a big boost from participants that will start collaborating and advancing their work thanks to meeting (new) team members face-to-face.” What to expect from the programme 

What to expect from the programme

During the Vienna meeting, people can expect updates of the work packages and task forces on their work progress. “For me as  the WP3 Lead, I am particularly eager to define the next steps to filling the Bigpicture repository. There has been so much work done in preparations on the legal infrastructure, and we hope that by January, we will be ready to start filling the repository with data.” 

Attending the Annual Meeting is an essential part of the successful progress of the Bigpicture project. “The Annual Meeting is the opportunity for beneficiaries to influence the direction Bigpicture is heading. And of course it’s a nice opportunity to see beautiful Vienna as well.”
